Pueblo Zoo

The Pueblo Zoo is an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited facility covering twenty-five acres in Pueblo City Park. It is home to more than 400 animals representing 125 different species from around the world. Education outreach programs serve nearly every elementary school in Pueblo County, reaching thousands of children each year. Camps, on-site programming and volunteer opportunities give youth a chance to dive deeper on zoo grounds. Partnerships with the library and business partners provide free and reduced admission to those who cannot afford to visit the zoo.

Managed by the non-profit Pueblo Zoological Society, the Pueblo Zoo works diligently to delight guests while achieving a conservation mission, supporting many local projects, as well as three global efforts to save African penguins, red pandas, and African painted dogs.

The City of Pueblo has maintained a zoo in some form since the early 1900s. The current site in City Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and attracts 90,000 visitors each year. The current Islands of Life and World of Color buildings, as well as the eagle exhibits, were constructed in the 1930s by the PWA and WPA. Guests can see the influence of this notable architectural style throughout the zoo.
